I am a 62-year-old British woman and, for the past 22 years, I have been suffering from spondylitis, a degenerative spinal disease which causes the vertebrae to crumble, trapping nerves and generating terrible pain.
Until August 2008, I had been going to a physiotherapist for massage and manipulation, but she then retired and I was at a total loss. I had no idea what to do and envisaged myself deteriorating rapidly.
Inspired by my brother-in-law, who had been going to a personal trainer at Fustra, I started work with Topi Lösönen at the same company.
He and I have been working together for a year and, thanks to him, I have made tremendous progress. I am more mobile, I have built up muscles, I have more energy and generally feel much better. One year ago, I was unable to lie on the floor without a fairly thick mattress. I can now do it on a regular gym mat. I still have pain, but I never expected to be free from pain, as so much damage has been done to my spine.
I had never been anywhere near a gym before this. I am probably the laziest person in the world, but I am so proud of myself and I now go to the gym alone, in addition to my personal training sessions. Topi has designed a programme for me that I can follow on my own.
Topi understands my illness and he is both encouraging and sympathetic.
Having him as a personal trainer has changed my life.
